Georgetown, Guyana – (March 14, 2016) The President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency, Brigadier David Granger has extended sincere condolences to Leader of the Opposition, Former President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, whose sister, Ms. Oma “Shanta” Jagdeo, died yesterday.
The President, in a letter addressed to Dr. Jagdeo, said, “The loss of a loved one, especially someone who has been devoted to your care and well-being for almost your entire life, is always a painful experience. I pray that God’s comforting Grace will be with you in this your moment of grief.”
President Granger also extended condolences on behalf of the Government of Guyana to all family members during this time of bereavement.
Ms. Oma “Shanta” Jagdeo, who died unexpectedly yesterday, was the older sister of Former President Jagdeo, with whom he shared a close relationship. She was 57 years old.
