Georgetown, Guyana – (January 28, 2016) The Ministry of Social Cohesion, today, conducted an outreach exercise at Union Village, West Coast Berbice, aimed at enhancing the lives of vulnerable families. The exercise, which was held at the Union Village Community Development Council (CDC) building, was supported by the international human services organisation, Caring For Others Guyana Incorporated.
As she presented the packages containing clothing and books to the recipients, Minister Amna Ally told the gathering that her Ministry is very keen on bridging inequalities. She assured them that while in the past many villages had been neglected, this Government will ensure that provisions are made for them and all Guyanese.
“I want to tell you that this Government has you at heart and this Government, through my Ministry, will work to eradicate poverty and inequalities. My Ministry will be in the forefront of bridging those gaps and ensuring that all of the people of Guyana enjoy a better life,” Minister Ally said.
She further assured the gathering that today’s exercise is just the beginning of other endeavours that will be undertaken in Region Five communities, aimed at realising the President’s vision of a good life for all. The Minister also pointed out that this activity complements other programmes that are being rolled out by the administration to improve the lives of ordinary Guyanese, including the President’s “Boats, Buses and Bicycles” programme and the “Rethink Initiative – Kind Soles” project, managed by the Office of the First Lady.
“We are going to areas where we find vulnerable families. We may not be able to provide for all [at the same time] but [certainly those most at risk],” she said.
The items distributed today were donated to the Government by Caring for Others Guyana Incorporated, which provides aid to vulnerable groups around the world. Local representative, Ms. Shabakie Fernandes, who also helped to share the items at today’s exercise, said the organisation is again pleased to partner with the Administration on this worthy cause. The Organisation has been working closely with the Government over the past months, resulting in a number of outreaches countrywide.
At the close of the exercise, CDC Chairperson, Ms. Yvette Price, expressed gratitude to the Minister, her team and the organisation on behalf of the beneficiaries.
