Georgetown, Guyana – (May 30, 2017) First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, today, accepted a donation of food supplies from the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), for residents of the flood affected areas in Cuyuni-Mazaruni (Region Seven) and Potaro-Siparuni (Region Eight) at the CIOG headquarters in Georgetown.
In accepting the donation, the First Lady commended the organisation for the kind gesture. “I would like to thank the CIOG for this presentation, which they have made to people, who need and deserve our help, I am very sure that the recipients would be very pleased and appreciative of this gesture,” she said.
Director of Education and Chief Executive Officer of the CIOG, Sheikh Moeen ul Hack, noted that giving back to those in need is in keeping with the beliefs of the Muslim faith, particularly at an auspicious time such as Ramadan.

“It is our holy month of fasting and we are further encouraged to increase our good deeds and our acts of kindness, so we are very happy that we have been given the opportunity once again to make the contribution towards our brothers and sisters who have suffered [in those regions],” Sheikh Moeen ul Hack said.
Mr. Khakan Ramjohn, General Secretary of the CIOG echoed similar sentiments, noting that the organisation is keen on giving back to those in need.
