Georgetown, Guyana – (August 27, 2015) Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, today, met with a delegation from the United States (US) Congress at the Ministry of the Presidency, where discussions were held on the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries. The delegation was led by Staff Director on the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee, Mark Walker and included Sadaf Khan and Tom Alexander. They were accompanied by Charge d’ Affaires of the US Embassy Bryant Hunt.
Walker in brief remarks said that, “It’s been way too long since a delegation from the US Congress has visited. We felt that the timing was right with the swearing in of a new president, parliament and government”.
He spoke of the bi-partisan composition of the delegation and their interest in meeting a wide cross-section of the Guyanese people, all with the aim of promoting a better working relationship between Guyana and the US.
Meanwhile, Minister Harmon, in welcoming the delegation, expressed the hope that the bi-partisan delegation would foster greater understanding and would open new vistas and opportunities for collaboration and cooperation.
