Your Excellency, I am pleased to accept the Letters of Credence, accrediting you as High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
I extend a warm welcome to you and ask that you convey to His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari my best wishes for his personal well-being and for the continued prosperity of the people of Nigeria.
As you pointed out, our two states have enjoyed friendly and respectful relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties on 2nd August 1976. Our relationship is founded on mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, mutual non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, cooperation for mutual benefit, solidarity, respect for treaties and international law and the maintenance of regional and international peace and security.
Excellency, we have deepened and strengthened our friendship through our participation in the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, the Commonwealth and the United Nations. Our engagements within these organisations allow us to seek common approaches to address global challenges such as climate change and, terrorism.
I had the opportunity to meet President Buhari on the side lines of the 71st Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in September 2016. He and I discussed cooperation in the fields of culture, petroleum development, national security and trade.
Excellency, your appointment can help to ensure that those discussions are concretized through practical initiatives for our two republics and for our mutual benefit. The prospect of fruitful exchanges between Guyana and Nigeria is promising.
Excellency, I congratulate you on your appointment and look forward to your helping to further our common interests. I assure you of my government’s support in the discharge of your duties. I wish you a successful tenure as High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. Welcome.
