Georgetown, Guyana – (November 15, 2016) First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, earlier today, met with Ms. Natasha Clarke- Solomon, a Guyanese resident in the United States of America and founder of The El Dorado Foundation Incorporated, to discuss several youth targeted projects and proposals, which are being planned by the organisation.
These proposals centre on education, Information and Communication technology, arts and agriculture and are expected to benefit youth in communities throughout Demerara – Mahaica (Region Four).
In an invited comment, the First Lady said that she was pleased that she has been able to offer advice and information to Mrs. Clarke- Solomon, so that her planned projects can come to fruition.
“I hope I was able to give her the insight and advice that she needs to get up and running and to run successful programmes here in Guyana…I pointed out to her that several Ministries have programmes she might want to contact them about and she wants to focus on Region Four so I pointed out the NDCs and RDCs who might be good partners for her,” Mrs. Granger said.
Mrs. Natasha Clarke- Solomon, in her comments, noted that it is her wish to serve the coastal communities in Region Four and to help people to live sustainable lives within their communities.
“We want to able to help people to develop themselves and be self-sustaining. We are trying to focus mostly on the youth because we believe that there is no future without our youth and we are trying to focus on areas like education and computer training. Also, apart from that we are focusing on cultural preservation which would include things like the arts and agriculture. Agriculture is a part of our culture, the Guyanese culture. Sometimes I come here and I crave certain things and I can’t find them, for example, ‘monkey apple’; I can’t find it anywhere and agriculture is a part of our culture so we need to preserve that,” she disclosed.
Just last week President David Granger announced that his government will support viable micro-enterprise projects at the village level as he urged the various villages across the country to return to the days of self-sufficiency, especially in the agricultural sector.
