Georgetown, Guyana – (September 29, 2016) First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, today, met with a group of women, who are in the process of forming a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Giving Hope Foundation, at her office and discussed possible areas of collaboration with its representatives. The Leader of the group, Dr. Latoya Gooding, along with Ms. Luna Chung, Ms. Patricia Pierre and Ms. Sharon Carrington explained that their focus is reaching out to people, who are affected by cancer through a range of initiatives.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Dr. Gooding said, “We find that there [are] a lot of foundations out there, however, they are not reaching the needs… Our foundation is a foundation with a difference and a vision, and today we’re here… to see how best we can work together.”
Mrs. Granger, in an invited comment, said that the meeting with Dr. Gooding was intended to provide her with information on the soon to be established NGO.
“Dr. Gooding is with the Oncology Department of the Georgetown Public Hospital and they are setting up a foundation to look mainly at children affected by cancer, doing research and outreaches… They also have some activities planned for cancer awareness month, which is in October and they have asked me to go to a few of their functions, during that period. We also spoke a bit about incidents of cancer and what they hope to do,” the First Lady said.
Additionally, Ms. Gooding indicated that the group will approach the Ministry of Health to explore possible collaborations.
