His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali said that his Government recognises the vital work of religious bodies across the country and will support them through the transfer of resources.

The Head of State made the announcement while delivering the keynote address at the opening ceremony of the National Toshaos Conference (NTC) this week at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

“I believe—and we, this Government, believe too—that as our country grows in material richness, spiritual richness, and human richness, it must also support our religious organisations. The country must support our churches, temples, and mosques because they play an important role in the social, moral, and civic fabric of our society. One of the things we will do is work with our religious community in transferring resources directly to them to help in their work. This is what love is.”

The President described this initiative as building One Guyana on “strong grounds”.

He also emphasised that while individuals have personal, family, and community responsibilities, his Government will embrace its national responsibility to move the country forward, supporting the religious community in its efforts.

President Ali has spoken extensively about the importance of religious communities and their impact on morality and social development.

In addition to ensuring that Guyanese across the country enjoy more prosperous lives through economic diversification, development, and the transformation of key sectors—including infrastructure, agriculture, health, education, and human resource capital—the Head of State has stressed that his Government will also prioritise fostering healthy minds and cultural development.
