Georgetown, Guyana – (May 31, 2019) First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, this morning, received a courtesy call from United Nations (UN)Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative, Ms. Mikiko Tanaka at her State House office.
Ms. Tanaka, in an invited comment, said that they held discussions on areas of mutual interest such as gender-based violence and domestic violence, with the view of determining how they can be better addressed. “I really wanted to get good advice from her [the First Lady] as we have an opportunity now with the European Union (EU)and the United Nations (UN) to work together here in Guyana on gender-based violence,” she said.
The First Lady, who is a champion of women’s rights and equality has advocated against this scourge across the country and she continues to support both Government and non-governmental programmes aimed at reducing same.
