Rules and Guidelines
The future of Guyana has never looked better!! Through the discoveries of massive reserves of oil and gas comes the opportunity for transformation; the opportunity for every Guyanese to share in the wealth, well-being and security of a prosperous nation.
The Department of Energy invites the submission of original artistic interpretations of the theme “Guyana’s oil and gas: transforming our nation, in unity – One Guyana”.
This juried art competition offers 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for original artistic creations; participants must be Guyanese within the following age categories:
1) 6 to 10 years
2) 11 to 14 years
3) 15 to 18 years
Awards:
– 1st place: $75,000 and plaque
– 2nd place: $50,000 and trophy
– 3rd place: $25,000 and trophy
Finallists:
– The first-place design of each age category will be featured on the Department of Energy’s public communications material and productions. The Department reserves the right to augment the design as may be appropriate and compliant with the Department’s requirements.
– The most “liked” artwork on the Department’s Facebook page will also receive a prize. In case the winning artwork is also the most “liked” artwork on Facebook, this prize will be given to the second most “liked” artwork.
Contest Requirements for the Artwork:
– Artwork must be accompanied by a short summary containing no more than 150 words, giving the artist’s interpretation of his/her work.
– Artwork must be hand drawn or painted.
– Artwork must be submitted in hardcopy and must be no smaller than 8 inches by 12 inches and no larger than 10 inches by 16 inches. Do not mat or frame artwork.
– The use of lettering or numbering on the artwork, in any foreign language is not allowed.
– Submit only original artwork that has been created by you, the artist, as identified on the submission form; no part of any artistic rendering that is submitted should be copied or adapted from another source.
– A maximum of one (1) entry per contestant is allowed for the competition.
Rules and Guidelines:
– Submissions: Deadline: 15:30 hrs on Friday March 29
– Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form as provided in the print media or on the Ministry of the Presidency’s website. Entry Forms must be legibly completed in block letters using ink.
– Entrants will be required to provide official proof of their age in the form of a copy of their birth certificate, national identification card or valid passport.
– By participating in the competition, participants accept all competition rules and agree to be bound by them.
– All entries become the property of the Department of Energy from the date of submission and may be used in the Department’s public communications material and productions. The Department reserves the right to augment the design as may be appropriate and compliant with the Department’s requirements.
– No entry shall contain any trademark.
– The artwork must be original and must not have received any previous awards.
– If the winner is determined to have violated any rules, he/she will be required to forfeit or return the prize, even if the determination is made after the prize has been awarded.
– The Department of Energy reserves the right to print, publish, upload and/or display the name, age, photograph and entry of all participants.
Judging Criteria
The artwork submitted will be judged based on the following elements of artistic expression:
– Clarity of theme “Guyana’s oil and gas: transforming our nation, in unity – One Guyana” to the judges
– Creativity and originality.
– Quality of composition and design.
– Overall impression. The effect of the artwork as a whole, often based on the first glimpse of the finished piece, will be judged.
Determination of Winner and Prize
– The winning entry will be selected by a panel of independent judges and officials of the Department. Their decision will be final, and no further correspondence shall be entered into.
– Winners and Finalists will be contacted via email and / or telephone contact and announced on the Department’s Facebook page by Thursday April 18.
– If the winner is determined to have violated any rules, he/she will be required to forfeit or return the prize, even if the determination is made after the prize has been awarded.
– All participants under 18 must seek and provide written permission from their parents or legal guardians before participating in the competition.
– The determination of the judges is final, non-reviewable and non-appealable.
NOTE: The art competition is NOT OPEN to employees of the Department of Energy, the Ministry of the Presidency, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, selected Judges and their immediate family members.

– Is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, or otherwise unusable entries, including entries that are lost or unusable due to computer, internet, or electronic problems.
– Is not liable, for the purpose of winner and prize notification and delivery, in the event the contest winner has provided incorrect, outdated, or otherwise invalid contact information.
– Shall have the right to adapt, edit, modify, or otherwise use the winning submissions in part or in its entirety in whatever manner it deems appropriate.
– Reserves the right to choose not to use the winning entry as described in these contest guidelines.
