Georgetown, Guyana – (January 5, 2019) His Excellency David Granger, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, extends heartfelt condolences at the passing of Ambassador Odeen Ishmael, CCH, a retired diplomat.
Ambassador Ishmael, who passed away today at the age of 70, last served as Guyana’s ambassador to Kuwait. He also served as Guyana’s Ambassador to the United States of America and Venezuela and, was also appointed the country’s Permanent Representative to the organization of American States (OAS).
Additionally, the Ambassador Emeritus (retired) was appointed Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Guyana to the State of Qatar.
Ambassador Ishmael authored several books inclusive of the Trail of Diplomacy – A Documentary History of the Guyana-Venezuela Border Issue.
