Georgetown, Guyana – (November 5, 2018) Prime Minister Mr. Moses Nagamootoo, who is currently performing the duties of President, yesterday attended the Saraswati Vidya Niketan (SVN) School’s annual convocation exercise at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, where he urged the graduating class to prepare themselves to take advantage of the opportunities that will come with a petroleum-driven economy.

“I ask you to aim at becoming our future engineers, environmentalists, agronomists and agro-processors, project planners and other technicians.  The vision of our Green State Development Strategy includes you, the leaders and creators of the new Guyana. I wish you well in your post-secondary school endeavours, whether in the field of work or education, in your exciting careers, and in scholastic pursuits,” he said.

Quoting President David Granger, who has attended the school’s graduation for the past two years, the Prime Minister said, “The values of education are concerned with producing persons of quality. Education must edify the mind, enhance skills and emancipate the mind from arrogance, from anger and from hatred. Education can achieve these ends only if it embraces certain values…Education instils respect for others, respect for authority… respect for the property of others.”

This year, the school has again performed creditably at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination, as it has been doing over the years with a total of 12 students in the top 200. Ms. Jasmattie Parbhu, who gained 13 Grade Ones was named best graduating student.
