Georgetown, Guyana – (October 25, 2018) First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, yesterday, received a courtesy call from the Deputy Chair of the Department of Development and Special Studies of the Medgar Evers College, Mr. Ivor Baker.  The institution is a senior college of the City University of New York. 

During the meeting, which was held at the Office of the First Lady at State house, Mrs. Granger and Mr. Baker discussed areas of mutual interest including, literacy, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Robotics.

“We will look at the possibilities of working together on my youth development initiatives for the coming year,” the First Lady said. 

The First Lady’s youth development initiative is a remedial learning programme, which is offered free of cost, in the communities of Buxton and Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.  

Meanwhile, Mr. Baker, who has been hosting a series of literacy workshops in the East Berbice-Corentyne Region (Region Six) said that he believed that he could contribute to the programme.  “My specialty is literacy and as a lecturer of critical literacy, I am uniquely placed to help in this particular area in terms of helping the teachers to teach textual analysis,” he said.
