US oil giant Exxon Mobil is in the process of deploying additional resources to bolster on-going exploration activities in the Stabroek Block or Liza Area which covers about 26,806 square kilometres. In May, the company announced the discovery of a deposit containing a substantial amount of hydrocarbons.
Senior officials from the company, including President of Explorations, Stephen Greenlee, Executive Vice-President of Explorations, Mike Cousins and Vice President of the Americas, Eric Oswald, recently met with President David Granger at the Ministry of the Presidency.
Speaking at a post-Cabinet press briefing today, Minister of State, Joseph Harmon said that the company has reaffirmed its commitment to the on-going exploration works being done offshore Guyana.
Guyana’s western neighbour, Venezuela resuscitated an age-old boundary dispute when its President, Nicholas Maduro issuing a decree, claiming sovereignty over Guyana’s territorial waters in the Essequibo region of the Atlantic Ocean, following the discovery of the hydrocarbons which signals the possible presence of oil in economic quantities.
Meanwhile Guyana is assured of the support the Commonwealth and the ABC countries in not only defending its borders but in bringing this dispute to an amicable solution as well.
