Republic of Ireland
I am pleased to accept the Letters of Credence accrediting you as Ambassador of Ireland to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
I congratulate you on your appointment and welcome you to Guyana. I ask that you convey to His Excellency, President Michael Higgins my best wishes for his personal wellbeing and for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of the Republic of Ireland.
Guyana established diplomatic relations with Ireland almost two decades ago on 2nd February 2000 and though separated by many miles geographically, our states converge on our deep commitment to shared values in the pursuit of sustainable development.
Our relations are founded on mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, mutual non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, cooperation for mutual benefit, respect for treaties and international law and the maintenance of regional peace and security.
Guyana and Ireland share a strong commitment to combatting climate change and building partnerships to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Guyana recognizes Ireland’s thrust to introduce radical climate change policies in its new Green Agenda and sustainable food production programme in recognition of the significant threat imposed by global warming.
Guyana is moving towards the establishment of a ‘green state’. The ‘green state’ will place emphasis on the protection of our environment, the preservation of our biodiversity and the promotion of renewable energy and the adoption of practical measures to ensure climate adaptation.
Guyana welcomes the opportunity to develop its relations with Ireland in support of its national development goals and international obligations. We recognize that there is significant scope for collaboration with Ireland in development cooperation, climate change, tourism, trade and investment.
We are heartened by the Republic of Ireland’s increased attention to enhancing the relations of the Republic of Ireland with the Caribbean Region.
I look forward to working with you as we pursue our shared goals at the national, regional and international levels. I assure you of the full support of my Government in the discharge of your duties as Ambassador of Ireland to Guyana.
I extend best wishes to you for a successful undertaking in fulfilling your mandate.
I thank you.
