Georgetown, Guyana – (November 11, 2018) As the world celebrates the 100th anniversary of World War 1 Armistice, Prime Minister Mr. Moses Nagamootoo who is performing the functions of President, said gratitude is forever owed to the gallant men and women who gave their lives in both World War I and World War II. The Prime Minister was at the time speaking on behalf of President David Granger at this year’s Remembrance Day observance held at the Cenotaph, Main Street, Georgetown.
“We are forever indebted to them for their supreme sacrifice in the cause of peace and freedom…We also recall with gratitude those through the years who have made similar personal sacrifices in the continuing struggle for human dignity, social justice and freedom from all forms of oppression wherever these exist,” Prime Minister Nagamootoo said.
He reminded that the example set by veterans strengthens Guyana’s resolve to maintain efforts for a world of peace with justice and prosperity for all persons.
“On this solemn occasion we the people of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana rededicate ourselves to the search for peace everywhere and renew our commitment to the development and well-being of our bellowed country,” the Prime Minister said.
It was on the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, in 1918, that the Armistice was signed.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Carl Greenidge, who is performing the functions of Prime Minister, other government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, disciplined services and veterans also attended the ceremony.
