Georgetown, Guyana – (October 15, 2015) As was promised by the General Secretary of the United Nations (UN), Ban Ki Moon, a delegation from the UN visited Guyana on Monday and held discussions with Government officials and representatives from the Parliamentary Opposition. Speaking at a post-Cabinet briefing yesterday Minister of Governance Raphael Trotman informed that the delegation was headed by the Secretary Chef de Cabinet, Susana Malcorra.
The Minister said that, “We were pleased with the progress made and that we were able to put out a just case for why the 1899 the arbitral award is final and why our position is a just one,” Minister Trotman said.
He noted that the team having finished its discussion with Guyana left for similar engagements with officials in Caracas, Venezuela.
This recent engagement was part of the steps agreed to during a meeting attended by President Granger with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and which was also attended by President Maduro on September 27, on the margins of the 70th General Assembly.
