Georgetown, Guyana (October 12, 2015) – Minister of State, Joseph Harmon was today paid a courtesy call by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Barama Company Limited, Thomas Apun and General Manager, Mohindra Chan at the Ministry of the Presidency.
During a brief meeting, Minister Harmon took the opportunity to articulate Government’s position on foreign direct investment and said that the investment that Barama has made in the timber sector is an important one.
“We want to see that you continue to grow under this administration. We will always try to do our best to ensure that the right atmosphere and environment is created so that business can flourish and you can employ more Guyanese”, the Minister said.
Meanwhile, the CEO said that the company’s investors are keen on moving the process of contractual agreements and renewals forward, given that further investments are being considered. This will enhance the level of production and provide more employment.
This year marks 24 years since Barama has been operating in Guyana. It currently provides employment for more than 800 Guyanese.
