Further Particulars for the Eight Positions of “Instructors in Training “for the GTTCI in Port Mourant, Berbice.
1. Objective- The desirable candidate:
The GTTCI which under the purview of the Office of the President is desirous of hiring 8 Guyanese Technicians to become specialized Instructors, two each with at least Technician Diplomas (Levels 2/3) in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Production operations and who are experienced in training in technical education for a minimum of five (5) years. Candidates with higher qualifications in the relevant Engineering disciplines for example and with suitable teaching/training experiences would also be considered. The candidates must be eager to undergo further specialist training to be provided by the GTTCI and have the desire, competencies, and heart to impart such training/mentoring to students under their tutorage.
2. Training the Technicians/ Instructors:
The GTTCI will be training Technicians in the 4 disciplines so as to prepare them for working on the FPSOs working Offshore. This training in Basic and Advanced Skills (BST and AST) is currently being done in Canada over twelve (12) months followed by six (6) months of training in Port Mourant on the FACTOR simulator that was recently commissioned. The training is currently being delivered by experienced, expatriate Instructors and this will continue in September 2025, at Port Mourant where a new training facility is being built. It is expected that the eight (8) Instructors that will be hired will be given specialized training themselves by these expatriate Instructors through a process that involves eighteen (18) months of formal training, getting experience on the FPSOs offshore, and then “shadowing” the expatriate Instructors in all facets of their Training of Guyanese students at the GTTCI in Port Mourant. Through this process and after a few years in the GTTCI, it is expected that their specialist skills will be honed, and they will become fully competent to replace at least some of the expatriate trainers.
3. Must be prepared for going and being trained Offshore
The training to be provided would include training in Health and Safety (including Helicopter travel training) so as to prepare these Technicians with the necessary training and experience, to travel by helicopter to go offshore and spend sometimes, intermittently and over a couple of years, on the FPSOs. The selected candidates must be prepared for such training.
4. List of Duties:
- To instruct, assess and report on students in the four (4) Technical Disciplines, namely: Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Operations to the Technician Diloma Level (11/111) and to prepare them specifically for working Offshore in the Oil/Gas Industry on the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSOs).
- To receive on the job, specialized, both formal and informal skills training by GTTCI and occasionally on the FPSOs operating offshore in the Atlantic water, Guyana.
- To be mentored by experienced expatriate instructors working at the GTTCI in particular to develop the competencies as Instructors.
- To be student centered and friendly through the provision of student counselling and guidance facilitating their training through appropriate methods.
- To provide relevant and timely reports/feedback on student performance, self-assessment and other reports on quality and accreditation, etc. as may be required by the Director.
- To work professionally and as a team member with other instructors and administrators of the GTTCI so as to ensure its mission is delivered, for example: team meetings, engagement of stakeholders including parents and the recruitment of students, etc.
- To represent the GTTCI professionally at all times.
- To perform any other duties assigned by the Director.
5. Place of Work
The place of work will be at the new GTTCI Campus being built through a partnership between the Government of Guyana and Exxon, Market Street, Port Mourant, Berbice.
