– sets sail towards a future of unity and transformation

Georgetown, Guyana—(September 7, 2025) His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali was sworn in for a second term today at State House, where he renewed his pledge to unity, inclusion, and national transformation.

During his inauguration speech, the 9th Executive President of Guyana declared the next five years to be the most consequential in Guyana’s history and called on every citizen to join him in building a future defined not only by resources but also by opportunity, dignity, and shared purpose.

“Today, I recommit myself to that unity. I pledge to be a President for every community, every sector, every Guyanese.”

His call was not just for unity, but for collective action. Hespoke of the resources, the leadership, the opportunities, the partnerships and the international goodwill to transform promise into reality.

He congratulated all parties that secured representation in the National Assembly and lauded the democracy of the country, offering a hand in partnership for the future of the nation.

“Democracy is made richer by inclusion, and now the time has come to put aside the partisan banners and flags of campaign, the sheaths of campaign rhetoric, and to embrace the higher call of nation-building. With elections now behind us comes the responsibility to transform competition into cooperation, and division into dialogue and to remember that the mandate of the people is not a call to partisanship, but a call to partnership.”

Among the most urgent priorities in the next five years would be a fight against poverty.  The President said a “national crusade” would take place, not only against visible hardship, but against the structural burdens that keep families from rising.

He pledged to expand homeownership, strengthen financial inclusion, and ensure that every small entrepreneur has the support to start, grow, and thrive.

Community development will be central to this mission. The President outlined plans to install tens of thousands of streetlights, expand roads, improve sanitation, and beautify neighbourhoods.

Safety will be enhanced through decentralised policing and technology-driven solutions, while national security will be fortified with the most modern defence ecosystem in Guyana’s history. “Guyana will stand strong, stable, and secure.”

Health and education will also be transformed. Every citizen’s health will be tracked from early childhood, risks identified, and treatment provided through a first-class system. Schools will become modern centres of learning, equipped with digital tools and enhanced teaching to prepare children for the future.

To confront the cost of living, the President pledged to halve electricity costs, keep water tariffs from increasing, and ensure that no new taxes are imposed. He also promised to intervene against unfair pricing and boost local food production, including poultry, fish, and vegetables, to ensure markets are filled with affordable, fresh, locally-produced food.

Women, youth, and the elderly will see targeted support. Taxes will be removed from personal health and hygiene products, childcare centres will be built, and employment opportunities expanded. The fight against domestic violence will be intensified. For the elderly, pensions will rise, mobile health units will reach rural areas, and residential care will expand. Young people will benefit from free education, affordable housing, and new sportsfacilities, including a world-class indoor stadium, a high-performance conditioning centre, and a cycling velodrome.

“My mission is unchanged. It remains to serve every citizen of this land.  Together, we will make Guyana the Rising Frontier—a land of prosperity, of justice, of dignity, and of hope for every single citizen. The future is ours to build, and together we will rise to meet it.”
