
His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali, outlined several forward-thinking measures that will reform Government services and improve the livelihoods of Guyanese during a consultation with members of civil society, held at the Ramada Princess Hotel on Wednesday.
Joined by General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party and current Vice President, the Honourable Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, President Ali engaged in discussions on ideas and strategies to enhance social and economic development for all Guyanese. The consultation welcomed input from a wide cross-section of society, including ordinary citizens, members of the private sector, animal welfare advocates, athletes, and healthcare representatives.
President Ali outlined several people-centred plans that citizens can naturally expect from his government, including additional cash grants for households and individuals, continuous salary increases for public sector employees, an increase in old age and NIS pensions and wider access to public assistance grants.
A significant highlight was the proposed establishment of a Development Bank dedicated to financing small and medium-sized enterprises, an initiative aimed at stimulating business growth and supporting entrepreneurship.
The President also reiterated his administration’s commitment to reducing the cost of living by lowering the price of cooking gas, keeping fuel prices stable, and ensuring affordable electricity rates for all Guyanese.
Further plans include boosting agricultural production and delivery, revitalising the bauxite industry, and pursuing waterfront development to enhance transportation and tourism. The expansion of housing development and the fast-tracking of housing applications were also announced, along with the rollout of safer, technology-driven housing schemes and roadways, and stronger animal welfare policies.
The consultations included input from regular citizens, private sector representatives, animal welfare advocates, athletes, healthcare professionals, and other members of society.
