His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali recently opened the new digital X-ray unit at the Leonora Cottage Hospital in Region Three (Essequibo Islands–West Demerara).
The new GE digital X-ray unit, representing an investment of over $130 million, will provide world-class diagnostic services to patients. With this system, patients will be able to have their X-rays done faster and more efficiently, and will also receive a digital copy of the results.
In addition to procuring the unit, the hospital was retrofitted with an upgraded electrical system, generator and transformer to ensure the equipment can operate at full capacity.
The President said his Government decided to upgrade the hospital’s facilities given the number of people requesting the service.
Minister of Health, the Honourable Dr Frank Anthony, also attended the event.
