His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali said that over 650 homes in Timehri North on the East Bank of Demerara will be processed for titles. The Head of State made the announcement on Sunday while addressing residents at Faith Tabernacle International New Testament Church of God in the community.
The President explained that, following extensive consultation with the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), his Government reached an agreement to extract and protect the area from the airport’s expansion plans.
“We will work with you to ensure that not only do you receive ownership, but that you’re supported to move from land ownership to home ownership, to enhance your family’s welfare and build stronger communities.”
President Ali said that, soon, residents will be provided with Letters of Assurance, which they can leverage with the banks for loans and mortgages.
Additionally, he has instructed that a childcare facility being constructed by the airport to support its staff be extended to offer services to residents of the community.
He added that the airport, through a committee involving other stakeholders, will also contribute to the further development of the community.
Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Kwame McCoy, was also at the meeting.
