I am pleased to accept the letters of credence accrediting you as Non-Resident Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. I congratulate you on your appointment and I welcome you to Guyana.

I ask that you convey my personal best wishes to His Highness Sheikh Tamim Al-Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, for his personal wellbeing and for the prosperity of the people of his country.

Guyana and Qatar have enjoyed cordial relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties twenty-three years ago, on 23 August 1996.

Our relationship is predicated on mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, mutual non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, cooperation for mutual benefit, respect for treaties and international law and the maintenance of regional peace and security.

Guyana and Qatar further strengthened our bond of friendship with the signing of a Bilateral Air Services Agreement on 24th September 2019 which will pave the way for future cooperation in investment, enhanced trade, air travel and the movement of people. Guyana welcomes this important milestone and remains committed to working with the Government of Qatar to enhance air connectivity in an effort to link the Caribbean and the Middle East.

I wish to convey Guyana’s interest in deepening cooperation with Qatar in trade, capacity building and education. I also wish to suggest that new fields of cooperation in energy and tourism be explored.

Guyana is keen on enhancing partnerships with experienced oil producers such as Qatar. I am confident that your appointment as Ambassador will provide opportunities for fruitful discussions and exchanges in the oil and gas sectors of both our countries.

Guyana and Qatar have worked closely with each other in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations. Guyana reaffirms its commitment to deepening our engagements and cooperation with Qatar within these organizations as we seek common approaches and solutions to address global challenges.

Guyana is committed to the establishment of a ‘green state’ which will see more emphasis being placed on the protection of our environment, the preservation of our biodiversity, the promotion of renewable energy and the adoption of practical measures to ensure climate adaptation.

The ‘green state’ will allow a more effective response to the challenges posed by climate change, which are affecting all mankind. Climate change represents a threat to both of our countries’ economy and environment. We look forward to sharing experiences in building climate-resilient economic sectors and creating a safer planet for all our people.

I assure you of the full support of my Government in the discharge of your duties as Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

I wish you every success as you fulfil your mandate.
