Georgetown, Guyana – (August 14, 2019) President David Granger, this morning, sympathized with the relatives of Police Constable 2045 Winston Cooper of 761 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, who died this morning. The President, who was accompanied by Commissioner of Police (Ag.) Nigel Hoppie, called for an inquiry into the circumstances of Constable Cooper’s death.

“As you know, he’s a member of the Presidential Guard… What I will ask the Commissioner to do is to conduct an inquiry to find out how [this incident] could have happened,” the Head of State said.

Constable Cooper was found unconscious opposite the National Gymnasium by first responders of the Guyana Fire Service at about 5:30 am on July 1, 2019 and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

The 32-year old Presidential Guard died this morning after a few weeks of hospitalization.

President Granger met Constable Cooper’s mother, Ms. Loraine Peters and other relatives.
