Georgetown, Guyana – (June 19, 2019) Minister of State, Mrs. Dawn Hastings-Williams, this morning, met with the residents of Karau village, Cuyuni-Mazaruni (Region Seven) where she announced that the community will soon benefit from the installation of 40 solar street lights as Guyana transitions into a ‘green’ state. The Minister made these remarks during a ‘Government comes to you’ exercise hosted at the community sports ground.

“Your Government is a caring Government and that is why we are going to be installing these stand-alone solar streetlights in your community… We will start with 40 street lights in your community… because we believe that people must have access to basic necessities,” she said.

Minister Hastings-Williams said the outreaches are being held to fulfil the Government’s mandate of providing service and solutions to issues affecting residents. She underscored the Administration’s continued commitment to developing and implementing projects and policies that will allow all of it citizens access to public services.

Additionally, the Minister presented the two eldest members of the community, Mrs. Verna Cornelius and Mr. Fitzroy Benjamin, with food hampers as tokens of appreciation for their longstanding service. She also presented the community’s women’s group, “Women with Vision” with a sewing machine.

During the interactive session, Minister Hastings-Williams addressed matters of concern such as funding for community projects and development. She committed to engaging the relevant ministers on those matters that were outside of her remit.

Meanwhile, Regional Democratic Council, Chairman Mr. Gordon Bradford reaffirmed the RDC’s commitment to support Karau’s development.
