Georgetown, Guyana – (March 28, 2019) Minister of State, Mr. Joseph Harmon, today, received a courtesy call from newly-accredited United States Ambassador to Guyana, Mrs. Sarah-Ann Lynch at his office at the Ministry of the Presidency.

During the meeting, Minister Harmon welcomed Ambassador Lynch to Guyana and the two discussed matters of mutual interest, including the migration of Venezuelans and its effect on neighbouring countries; the US and Guyana’s bilateral relationship and the assistance that can be given to Guyana in a number of areas, including support to manage the influx of Venezuelan migrants and the set-up of storage bonds for the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) in various regions across the country.

The Minister also updated the Ambassador on the country’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, the Green State Development Strategy: Vision 2040 and other projects which the Government hopes to undertake in the future.

“What we have been doing and are doing, is build a framework of accountability, integrity and order in the country so that our citizens can derive the best benefits that can be had for a good life,” Minister Harmon said.

Ambassador Lynch said that the Government “has done an amazing job in setting the stage for developments in the country”. She noted too that the possibilities for Guyana are endless, particularly with the oil and gas industry coming on stream. The Ambassador also committed to increasing the areas and levels of cooperation between the two countries.
