Your Excellency, I am pleased to accept the Letters of Commission accrediting you as High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

I ask that you convey to His Excellency Dr. John Magufuli, my wishes for his personal well-being and for the progress of the people of the United Republic of Tanzania. I ask, also, that you convey our condolences to the families of the victims of on the September ferry disaster on Lake Victoria. It was a tragedy which affected citizens all around the world.

Excellency, Guyana and Tanzania have always enjoyed respectful and cordial relations. Guyana and Tanzania relations predated the establishment of formal diplomatic ties on 2nd December 1970.

As you are aware, Guyana was in the forefront of efforts in support of the frontline states in Southern African Liberation Struggles. The friendship between our states was cemented through high-level visits. Our first Prime Minister, Forbes Burnham, paid a visit to Tanzania in 1970. Former President Desmond Hoyte also paid a State Visit in 1986. Guyana hosted President Julius Nyerere in Georgetown in 1974 and 1996.

Collaboration and exchanges, between our two states extended to the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, the Commonwealth, the Non-Aligned Movement and the United Nations.

Our relationship is founded on mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, mutual non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, cooperation for mutual benefit, respect for treaties and international law and the maintenance of regional peace and security.

Excellency, Guyana is moving towards the establishment of a ‘green’ state – one that will place emphasis on the protection of our environment, the preservation of our biodiversity, the provision of eco-tourism and eco-educational services and the promotion of renewable energy and practical measures to ensure climate adaptation.

Guyana can learn from Tanzania’s experience in eco-tourism, in managing its conservation parks and in protecting its biodiversity. ‘Green’ development cooperation can form a basis for strengthening bilateral relations. Your appointment can help to advance the long-term strategic partnership between our two states.

I congratulate you on your appointment. I assure you of the full support of my government in the discharge of your duties as High Commissioner. I wish you every success in fulfilling your mandate. Thank you.
