Georgetown, Guyana – (August 27, 2018) First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, today, declared open the 5th Self-Reliance and Success in Business Workshop for 2018 where 40 participants of the Georgetown District will receive training in the area of small business development over the next five days at Regency Suites, Brickdam.
The First Lady, in her opening remarks, encouraged the participants to use the opportunity provided to lead successful business ventures and to become self-reliant while at the same time, help to develop their communities. “This is a workshop that does not only tell you about business, it helps you to look at yourself in your community, in your family and in your business to see how you can pull all the pieces together to be successful”. The First Lady also expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Social Protection and Interweave Solutions for their commitment to ensuring that the initiative is successfully executed throughout Guyana.
Delivering brief remarks, Coordinator, Ms. Shondel Hope said the workshop is geared to promote empowerment of women not only in Georgetown but Guyana as a whole. “This programme will provide you with opportunities and practical experiences that will broaden your horizons and guide you to your area of expertise. In this way you will have a clearer picture of your options and you will be better positioned to maximise your potential and create the avenues for your future sustainability,” she said.
Giving an overview of the workshop, facilitator at Interweave Solutions (Guyana) Incorporated, Mr. Wayne Barrow, noted that the programme has empowered and changed the lives of several women and some men across the country. “At the end of this session you will be able to incorporate the six P’s [Plan, Paper-Work, Process, Product, Price and Promotion] to write your own business plan. The workshop is about self-reliance, which is the ability, effort and the commitment to provide for your-self and family and having learned how to produce the business plan it may be submitted to Institute of Private Enterprise Development [IPED] or the Small Business Bureau to access grants or loans,” he said.
The quality of life plan and community development plan, which is an important aspect of the programme that is implemented by the participants themselves, is one of the tools aimed at ensuring that participants get a better understanding of common social issues faced by citizens and how to remedy such.
