Georgetown, Guyana – (April 30, 2018) First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, on Saturday, attended the Women Across Differences’ (WAD), fundraising Brunch, Fashion Show and Exhibition, which was held in the garden of the Critchlow Labour College, Woolford Avenue, Georgetown.

The event was organised to raise funding for WAD’s Comprehensive Empowerment Programme for Adolescent Mothers, which aims to equip them with the knowledge that will help them to realise their full potential. The First Lady serves as a patron of the non-governmental organisation. Co-ordinator of WAD, Ms. Clonel Samuels-Boston said that the organisation is always grateful to the First Lady for her support.

Patrons were entertained by a display of locally made attire, handbags and jewellery modelled by several of the teenage mothers that benefit from the programme. Reigning Calypso Monarch, Ms. Onika Joseph added further levity to the occasion with her rendition of “Woman is Boss”, which was greeted with loud cheers. Musical accompaniment was also provided by the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI)-Buxton Steel Pan Orchestra, which played local folk songs such as “Bamboo fire” among others.
