Georgetown, Guyana – (April 5, 2018)First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, yesterday, joined the Women Across Differences (WAD) organisation as they received a donation from the Bathersfield family, a US based Guyanese family that originally hailed from Buxton. The donation, which comprises of personal hygiene products, clothing and under garments was handed over at the WAD headquarters in Anira Street, Queenstown and benefits 21 young teenaged mothers who are currently part of WAD’s Comprehensive Empowerment Programme.
The First Lady, who is the Patron for the organisation, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the family’s act of kindness and offered the girls some words of encouragement. “This is not the last stop for you. It is the beginning and once you believe in yourselves and you keep pushing, even when things look a bit dark and gloomy, know that you can always move forward,” She said.
Ms. Tessa Bathersfield, who represented the family, explained that the donation was done as part of the family’s annual philanthropic exercises in Guyana. They learned of WAD’s work through Programme Coordinator, Ms. Clonel Samules-Boston, who is also friend of the family, and connected with the work of the organisation since a few members of their family had also been teenaged mothers.
