Georgetown, Guyana – (March 29, 2018) The Report from the Board of Inquiry, which was established by President David Granger, to probe the circumstances of an accident involving a ‘David G’ boat, was, this afternoon, handed over to Minister of State, Mr. Joseph Harmon, by Chairperson of the Board, Colonel (retired) Windee Algernon, at the Ministry of the Presidency.
Minister Harmon expressed appreciation to Colonel Algernon for the timely completion of the Report. “I want to thank you and your team for executing it in such an efficient manner and I want to say that we owe a depth of gratitude to the Board for actually coming up with these recommendations, which I believe will seek to address the operation of all of these boats not just this one that was involved [in] the accident,” he said.
Meanwhile, Colonel (retired) Algernon expressed gratitude to the Minister for the confidence the administration reposed in her to investigate the matter. “You would agree with me that children are a treasured resource and we must strive to protect them. [Therefore], based on my findings, I have come up [with] some recommendations, which you will find useful in determining what actions or corrective actions you would like to take to ensure that they are implemented and maintained,” she said.
Minister Harmon committed to ensuring that the recommendations contained within the Report are taken into consideration and noted too that those which can be applied to the operation of the ‘David G’ buses, will be considered.
The two members of Colonel (retired) Algernon’s team, Ms. Penelope Scott and Ms. Stacey Fraser also attended the meeting.
