I extend greetings to all Muslims and to all other Guyanese on the occasion of the happy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims performed acts of abstinence and engaged in ritual fasting and prayer.
Eid-ul-Fitr is a joyous occasion for both Muslims and non-Muslims. The festival’s exuberance is expressed in the congregations in the masjids and the coming together of families and friends to strengthen human ties and to help those who are in need.
Eid-ul-Fitr emphasises the values of compassion, friendship and kindness. These values reinforce social harmony by improving human relations and showing compassion towards others. Islam, in this way, is an integral and indispensable element of Guyana’s cultural character.
Eid-ul-Fitr strengthens social consciousness and reinforces social cohesion by promoting care, charity, tolerance and mutual respect.
