Georgetown, Guyana – (March 1, 2017) The Ministry of Social Cohesion, today, extended the deadline to March 12, 2017, for contributions and submissions to the Draft Social Cohesion Strategic Plan 2017-2021.

The Social Cohesion Strategic Plan 2017-2021 was compiled following 30 consultation sessions the Ministry hosted countywide, which saw participation from about 1,485 persons. Lead Consultant for the Social Cohesion National Strategic Plan, Dr. Thomas Gittens said that overall, the consultation process was a good one, and showcased people’s willingness to work toward furthering national unity.

Meanwhile, the Validation Exercise for the Plan, which is being supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will be held at the Princess Hotel Guyana on March 16, 2017 from 08:45 hours. Stakeholders are drawn from the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs), Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs), Community Development Councils (CDCs), Faith Based Organisations (FBOs), Municipal Councils, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Toshaos and other indigenous representatives, the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Fire Service, Government Ministries/Departments, civil society and special groups such as persons, who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT), women and youth representatives.
