Georgetown, Guyana – (January 28, 2017) His Excellency, Brigadier David Granger, MSS, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana is saddened to learn of the passing of distinguished Guyanese, Dr. Enid Lucille Denbow, CCH, who passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. She was 95 years old.

Dr. Denbow, who has been admired for her service and contributions to the nation, was born to Edwin and Verleigh Wilson on August 3, 1921. As a young woman she attended the St. Joseph’s High School before moving on to become a Pupil Nurse at the Georgetown Hospital. There she earned the highest score nationally on both the Nursing and Midwifery Examinations.

She Howard University in 1948, where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology and earned her medical degree from Women’s Medical College, Philadelphia in 1955. Among accomplishments, Dr. Denbow earned Membership in the Royal College of Physicians, England, having been awarded a Cardiology Fellowship from the Johns Hopkins University Hospital and attaining Fellowship at the Royal College of Physicians. Dr. Denbow was awarded the Cacique’s Crown of Honour in October 2016.
