Georgetown, Guyana – (June 3, 2016) Minister of State, Mr. Joseph Harmon, today, met with several residents of the Mocha Arcadia community, including Chairman of the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), Mr. Rudolph Adams, to listen to their concerns about access to electricity and water and the dilapidated roads in the community.
During the meeting at the Ministry of the Presidency, Mr. Adams said that the most pressing issue for the community is land titling.
Minister Harmon responded saying that “this issue has been raised before and I had asked the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission (GLSC) to take a team into the community to find a solution. The new Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Trevor Benn is aware of the situation and will be visiting the community shortly. I will also meet with the representatives of the various agencies with responsibility for the services needed and discuss what can be done”.
Mr. Adams also noted that some of the roads in the area are in a deplorable state while many of the streets lack lights. Access to potable water and proper drainage systems are also concerns for the community.
At the end of the brief meeting, Minister Harmon pledged to convene a meeting, by the end of next week, with the Ministries of Communities and Public Infrastructure, the Guyana Water Incorporated, the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority and the GLSC to discuss these challenges with the view of finding speedy resolutions.
Meanwhile, Mr. Reginald Daniels, a resident from the village, expressed his satisfaction and gratitude, noting that the community has been suffering for too long and help is urgently needed.
