Georgetown, Guyana – (March 30, 2016) First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, today, received a courtesy call from Lieutenant Colonel (ret’d) Brenda Aaron, a representative of the Brahma Kumaris Centre in Guyana, who invited her to participate in the group’s 40th anniversary celebrations. The meeting was held at the First Lady’s State House office.
In an invited comment, Ms. Aaron said the Brahma Kumaris will be hosting a series of activities to mark the milestone. Additionally, one of its senior members, Sister Jayanti, now the Brahma Kumaris’ European Director, will be visiting Guyana for the anniversary celebrations.
Further, Ms. Aaron said her friendship with the First Lady and President David Granger dates back many years and she shares and celebrates in their success. “I am proud of the progress that they have made so far,” she said, adding that she is here to support and applaud them.
In an invited comment, the First Lady said Ms. Aaron is a contemporary of President David Granger and a long-time friend of the family, whom she is always pleased to visit with. Mrs. Granger also said that she has accepted Ms. Aaron’s invitation to participate in some aspects of the Brahma Kumaris’s upcoming anniversary programme set for April month end.
The Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organisation first came to Guyana in December, 1975. It was established in Guyana following a series of lectures held countrywide by Sister Jayanti. The first service centre was opened in Waterloo Street, Georgetown, in 1976, and was registered as a Trust. The Organisation moved to its Kingston, Georgetown location in 1977, which serves as the main centre for five other service locations across the country.
