Georgetown, Guyana – (October 12, 2015) President David Granger met with a group of differently-abled persons, today at the Ministry of the Presidency. The group is headed by Mr. Omar Cooper who explained that during one of the group’s meetings, the decision was taken to approach the President to discuss with him their concerns and challenges.

“We have encountered some problems with some higher officials, although we paved the way for cooperation and understanding so that is why we decided to come to meet the His Excellency,” Mr. Cooper said.

Currently, the group, which does not have a fixed office location, has been holding its meetings at the Muslim Youths Organisation (MYO) building. Mr. Cooper is of the view that the National Commission on Disability should provide office space for the group. This issue was also raised with the President.

The group, which has a membership of approximately 70 persons, receives assistance from the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), Food for the Poor Guyana and benevolent members of the Muslim community.
