Georgetown, Guyana – (September 18, 2015) Finance Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Nirmal Rekha, has abandoned his post since July 31, 2015, forcing government to appoint Deputy Finance Secretary Louise Bouyea, to act in that capacity.

This disclosure was made by Minister of State, Joseph Harmon at this week’s post Cabinet press briefing, which was held today at the Ministry of the Presidency.

According to the Minister, Rekha had applied for and was granted leave, which would have expired on July 31. However, he has not yet reported for duty and all efforts to contact have been proven futile.

This is despite the fact that it has been reported that he has been in contact with his Secretary at least two times during the past weeks, the Minister disclosed.
As such, the Finance Minister, Winston Jordan took the matter to Cabinet, where it was decided that the Deputy Finance Secretary should act in that position until a permanent solution is found.

Minister Harmon assured that all systems will be put in place to ensure that there are no disruptions to the preparation of the 2016 National Budget.
