Georgetown, Guyana – July 31, 2015 Minister of State, Joseph Harmon today handed over a $2M cheque to the African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) to support its Emancipation Day activities. This donation brings the total amount in financial assistance to the Association to $5M. 

Minister Harmon lauded the work of the Association and urged that the funds be spent to make to make this year’s celebrations even bigger than that of previous year.

A volunteer from ACDA, Gail Napoleon thanked the Government and explained that the Association is working towards making its annual Emancipation festivities at the National Park open to all Guyanese free of cost eventually.

This year, Guyana commemorates the 177th anniversary of the abolition of slavery.
