President David Granger today met with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative to Guyana and Suriname, Marianne Flach, who presented him with the organisation’s programme of action for Guyana and discussed a number of areas in which the Fund is seeking to collaborate with the Government.

Key among these issues is meeting the Millennium Development Goal that speaks to Universal Birth Registration. Flach said that there are still cases of children going unregistered, particularly in the hinterland.

“We would like to work with the Government to ensure that Guyana meets its commitment to have all children registered by 2016,” she said.
