APPOINTMENTS

The President has approved the appointment of Mr. Reginald Brotherson as the new Permanent Secretary, in the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs. The appointment recognises the administrative abilities of this young professional officer in the Accounting System in the Public Service. The appointment takes place in the context of marked expression in the Administration’s inputs into activities concerning Amerindians.


AMERINDIAN HERITAGE MONTH

President Jagdeo will be leading a delegation of Cabinet colleagues to St. Ignatius village in Rupununi on Wednesday, September 10, 2003. St. Ignatius has been identified as the Heritage Village in Region 9. The communities have already been advised of the grant of a holiday by Cabinet on that day, Wednesday, September 10, 2003. The day long activities and the location of the Heritage Village will provide coast-landers with an opportunity to enjoy the hospitality and culture of the Amerindians in Region 9.

* Others

Parliament is in recess.
Some committees are also in recess.
Work continues on the issue of building capacity in Parliament for space, equipment and human resources, both MPs and staff.

Reports are awaiting attention of Heads and/or Parliament.

CUBAN SCHOLARSHIP AWARDEES

The Office of the President would be bidding “Bon Voyage” to the ninety-four (94) Cuban special scholarship awardees on Monday, September 15, 2003, at Umana Yana. The farewell would be at an orientation session for awardees and their parents/guardians to be hosted by President Jagdeo. The academic year 2003 - 2004 would see the 2nd batch of the three hundred and fifty (350) students leaving for Cuba numbering 94. You might recall 124 students left on the 1st batch in 2002 - 2003 academic year. A special charter has been arranged for the flight to Cuba on Friday, September 26, 2003.
