WEEK 10: POST COMMUNIQUÉ IMPLEMENTATION
The implementation schedule remained generally intact.
The PNC/R has nominated an additional two (2) members to support Mr. Lance Carberry on their High Representative Team.
Mr. Deryck Bernard and Mr. James Mc Allister have been so appointed
Constitutional Reform matters for which commitment were made remained under discussion.
Parliamentary matters were being implemented . Discussions between the President and Mr. Corbin are ongoing.
PARLIAMENTARY SITTING
Parliament would be meeting on Thursday, July 25, 2003.
Important Bills to be considered include:-
* Maritime
Anti Narcotic Bill aka
“shiprider”
* The Fundamental Rights Bill
AMERINDIAN HERITAGE MONTH
Amerindian Heritage Month (September) would be celebrated this year with the village of St. Ignatius in Region 9 being the privileged site.
The main
highlights would be:-
* The Amerindian Heritage pageant;
* The Day of Sports.
Cabinet approved the programme and the expenditure.
FUEL SMUGGLING
The police had had its major element defined.
The team including members from the Joint Service, the Auditor General Department and the Guyana Revenue Authority would be presented with the recently concluded Terms of reference on Friday, July 25, 2003.
As disclosed earlier, while the police team will concentrate on activities related to the recent seizure of illegal fuel in the Essequibo and Demerara Rivers, the team would also be examining the illegal enterprise in general.
