SEXUAL ORIENTATION

In the face of confusing statements on the subject of Government's policy on sexual orientation, the Administration feels obliged to reiterate the following:-

It is not a PPP/C Government policy to constitutionally address sexual orientation. This Government's position is amply illustrated in its handling of the proposed constitutional amendment on that subject. That position has not changed.

Moreover, and even in the context of its aggressive HIV/AIDS Programme, the PPP/C Administration has no intention to:-

•  Provide for the use of condoms in penal institutions in Guyana ;

•  Discriminalise prostitution and other form of commercial sex practices.

PARLIAMENT

Parliament shall be meeting on Thursday, December 9, 2004 .

The PPP/C Government agenda for that session includes the tabling of the much expect motion on “Transparency of Parliamentary Committee hearing, debate on the Age of Consent Bill and the Financial Papers dealing with Supplementary Provisions for Government expenditure.

SECURITY AT CHRISTMAS

The Christmas season is upon us and the Administration intends to maintain security as possible during the festive period.

The Law Enforcement Agencies are fully mobilised in all police divisions in Guyana , particularly in the crime prone areas.

The main highways and road corridors will be provided with additional patrols and passengers traffic to and from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport , Timehri, would be under special surveillance during the season.

These initiatives would be jointly implemented by the Joint Services.
