SARS
1. Guyana continues to monitor the situation closely.
2. Surveillance at Ports Entry is maintained.
3. Contingency plans for testing, isolating, and treating have been put in place.
Public Relations aspects are being addressed in concert with the Media. The
Administration has made available dedicated access to identified health personnel
tasked with providing agreed upon information about SARS in Guyana at a regular
basis.
The engagement seeks to utilise the powers of the Media to contribute positively
in the reporting in Guyana and thus facilitate a responsible outlook about its
possible impact.
TALKS: GOG/PNC/R
The expectation continues to be high that complete resolution of issues that
separate the GOG and the PNC/R and have led to the tensions in the society.
Broad agreement have been resulted in the main areas:
(1) Dialogue and Resumption
(2) Parliamentary appointment including Corbin as the Leader of the Opposition
Once the agreements have been solidified, expectations are that Jagdeo/Corbin meeting would be held and the PNC/R will return to Parliament.
DROUGHT CONDITION
• Significant rainfall occurred across the coastal Regions 1 –
6.
• Significant rainfall occurred in hinterland Regions.
• Continued penetration of salt water into rivers in Regions 2 and 5 noted.
Flash fires and burning in pegasse soils continue in Regions 2, 3 and 4.
Expectation is that the May-June rains will soon come in full session and by
replenishing surface water lessen the plight of communities without potable
water and irrigation water for crops.
It is also expected that fires will be extinguished.
